The Lower Macungie Fire Department would like to thank you for considering joining our team. Being a volunteer firefighter is a very demanding job, not only for the member, but for their family as well. We would also like to thank the families of all new members for their support.
Our fire department responds to an average of 375 to 400 calls per year. That's approximately 1 call per day. We also have departmental training every week.
The Lower Macungie Fire Department starts accepting members at the age of 16. Members are junior firefighters from the ages of 16 to 18. Juniors are restricted on the fire scene and at training functions, but they are still a vital asset to our department. When responding on calls, juniors respond mostly as observers, which helps them become familiar with our apparatus, equipment, and procedures. This really helps them when becoming an active firefighter at the age of 18.
To join as an active member, you must be 18 years of age. Active members responding on calls during their probationary period will also respond as observers. Active members do not have to be interior firefighters. There are many different roles for an active member. Active members are also first responders, vehicle rescue technicians, and drivers.
If you are interested in joining, please contact us at (610) 398-0996 or stop by Station 30 on our Wednesday training nights at 7pm.
